Tap tempo for video editing can orient an initial cut rhythm when a stable audible or visible pulse is clear. TapTempo.one does not import media, read a timeline, create markers, place cuts, export data, or integrate with editing software.

Use the estimate as a note, then verify against frames and the actual source inside the editor.

Choose one section

Avoid mixing an intro, verse, transition, and ending in one sequence. Select a stable passage that matches the edit decision. Tap quarter beats or another named event through at least four occurrences.

Reset before measuring a new section or version.

Worked interval

Gaps of 400, 398, and 402 ms convert to 150, about 150.75, and about 149.25 BPM. Median is 150. Seconds per beat for a quarter grid are 60 / 150 = 0.4 seconds.

At 30 frames per second, 0.4 seconds is 12 frames in a constant-frame-rate project. At 24 fps it is 9.6 frames, so not every beat lands on an integer frame. Verify timebase, frame rate, and rounding in the editor; the site does not calculate or place frames.

Half and double grids

Half candidate 75 produces 0.8-second intervals. Double 300 produces 0.2 seconds. A slower grid can suit major cuts while subdivisions guide small accents. Do not call one automatically correct.

Name the chosen grid and preserve the original BPM estimate.

Drift and variable sources

Live performances, transferred media, variable playback speed, and expressive music can drift. A recent median covers only the newest up to eight gaps. It cannot create a tempo map.

Measure separate locations and verify phase. Equal BPM does not guarantee beat alignment.

Visual pulse sources

You may tap a repeated visual event when legally and practically available, but the site does not inspect video. Camera frame cadence, animation cycles, and editorial rhythm are not necessarily musical beats. Label what you observed.

Professional workflow boundary

Actual marker placement, frame accuracy, timecode, variable frame rate, conforming, synchronization, and export belong to editing tools. A browser tap estimate has no service-level, accuracy, or integration guarantee.

Social-cut planning scenario

An editor is reviewing a thirty-second rough cut whose middle section has a clear four-on-the-floor pulse, while the opening uses free sound design. The editor listens once without tapping, identifies the stable middle, then makes seven quarter-level activations. The provisional note reads “middle product sequence, quarter pulse, about 124.” No filename or client name is entered into the page.

In the timeline, the editor checks whether cut points actually align with the desired visual accents. Some cuts may intentionally precede a beat or span multiple beats. The manual estimate helps propose spacing; it does not make an editorial decision or certify frame placement.

Distinguish rate from alignment

Two sources can share 120 BPM yet have different downbeats and phases. At that rate, a half-second beat interval repeats indefinitely, but the first beat can begin anywhere. Before reusing a timing note, locate the intended first accent inside the editor and check later positions for drift. TapTempo.one supplies neither the starting time nor subsequent markers.

For a version with speed changes, create separate notes for each stable region. Do not average the opening and ending into a single edit grid. A local answer is useful precisely because its scope is named.

Share the note with another editor

Write the source version, measured section, entered pulse, approximate BPM, derived seconds per beat, and verification status. For example: “V3 review export, 00:12–00:20, quarter pulse ≈150, provisional 0.4 s/beat, frame check pending.” This communicates arithmetic without claiming automated media inspection.

If the project is sensitive, store that note only in an approved production system. The timing page has no project field and should remain free of confidential identifiers.

A clean repeat test

Reset, replay the same stable portion, and start on the same kind of beat rather than the same wall-clock moment. A nearby estimate supports the provisional interval. A large difference calls for another listen: perhaps the first pass followed subdivisions, the version changed, or the passage is not steady. Verification happens in the editing environment, where frame rate, timebase, phase, and source identity are visible.

Privacy

No media, filename, URL, timeline, frame, project name, or platform account is received. Only deliberate timing actions remain in current-page memory. Avoid putting confidential production details into support email.
